Alpha-courses for orphan students
The Alpha course is a course which seeks to introduce the basics of the Christian faith. Alpha's teachings are intended to centre upon aspects of Christian faith on which all denominations are in general agreement. Nicky Gumbel says "What unites us is infinitely greater than what divides us." Alpha courses are currently being run in churches, homes, workplaces, prisons, universities and a wide variety of other locations. We run Alpha courses in the dorms of technical schools because it's where orphans mostly get to after they finish secondary school and are let out of the orphanages. For the most part, these dorms are poor, run-down dwellings, where alcohol, drugs, teenage sex and other destructive things thrive and are exercised on a daily basis. A great number of those young people end up ruining their lives. That's where we seek to bring hope, faith and love of Jesus. The main driving force of our Alpha - after the spirit of God, of course - is that it's run by orphan students who used to be in their shoes but have been transformed by God through the Alpha course and other Destiny Center projects.

The technical schools staff are, in general, very open to having Alpha run for their students. We were really blessed to hear from several of them that they could trust us because they saw how much it had affected the young people from our team, and they heard their students' stories of how we had been coming to their orphanages back when they were kids.
For our ministry, Alpha course turned out to be a perfect tool helping the young people who had heard the Gospel as children in our camps and even had received Jesus, to keep on believing in their adult lives outside of orphanage. It also draws other young people and not only orphans learn more about something - or Somebody - that has made such a difference in the lives of our Alpha team.
